Bought IBM stock today. Yes it brought down the NYSE at the close of the day but it met analysts' earnings estimates, and it's investing in nanotechnology.

* Vicor (VICR, news, msgs), the maker of the VI line of high-efficiency, low-heat power-converter chips, and

* Maxwell Technologies (MXWL, news, msgs), the global leader with a 27% market share in ultra-capacitors, an alternative to batteries for energy storage. * Sociedad QuĂ­mica y Minera de Chile (SQM, news, msgs). The company produces about 65% of the lithium that comes out of the Salar de Atacama region of Chile. Recoverable reserves there make up 20% of the world's known reserves.

* FMC (FMC, news, msgs). The company produces lithium from Argentina's Salar de Hombre Muerto region, where recoverable reserves are estimated at 11% of global known reserves.
